The Waiting Game – Libby and Abby Comment Page 18

img_1917

It’s a waiting game. Investigators must wait until he takes another victim and hope evidence from the next attack/homicide will lead them to the killer of Abigail Williams and Liberty German.

It’s not an uncommon practice. There’s evidence, plenty of it, we’re told. Investigators have video and audio of the killer. But they do not have a name. Video stills, a voice clip, hundreds of highway billboards, numerous television appearances, witness accounts and a sketch of the suspect have failed to identify this killer. While thousands of tips have poured in, his identity remains unknown.

On July 18th, 2018, it was reported that investigators are working with Paragon NanoLabs in an attempt to identify Libby and Abby’s attacker through a DNA genealogy database. It’s been successful in other high profile cases. But it’s dependent upon a family member of the suspect, unknowingly, to have already submitted a DNA sample into GEDmatch.

It’s been almost 20 months since the two Delphi IN teens were led down a hill and brutally murdered near the Monon High Bridge Trail. There have been no named suspects. Investigators have stated that they have enough significant evidence to build a solid case once a suspect has been identified.

What are we left with? When all evidence and leads are dead ends…all you can do is wait. We can only speculate that such a brutal crime could not possibly be a first violent offense. We can only speculate that the killer’s DNA is not in CODIS or ViCap. We can only speculate that, in time, he will claim another victim. Then we wait.

    1. I don’t know that they are asking for the phenotyping that gives us the idea of what a suspect looks like. I believe they’ve sent the suspect DNA into Parabon NanoLabs for the familial DNA analysis….to have it entered into GEDmatch in hopes of finding a relative of BG. 100 cases from across the country were submitted to Parabon NanoLabs for a familial match. A few of those cases have been solved.

That is very different than what they’ve sent into the Indiana State Crime Lab. As soon as DNA was retrieved from the bodies or the murder scene it wou;d have immediately went to the crime lab. That is where they would extract DNA from evidence and identify the DNA markers that we be used for comparison. That’s a standard procedure. But some investigators use a private lab which is typically much much faster.

I don’t think they are phenotyping but if they have or do, it’s not expensive. Around $3000 I’ve been told.

  1. It’s depressing and disconcerting he’s not caught yet but I also thank you for keeping attention on this crime. I’m trying to do my part and put a poster or two up in truck plazas every week.

I need to get some posters over to Cabellas and Gander Mountain as hunting season is imminent. Maybe someone will recognize him out on some trail….

    1. You commenting here is doing a part! We still have hundreds to thousands of views every day on the Delphi pages. If we didn’t have some commentary people would have moved on from here most likely.

And there is still more to learn! I just learned that DNA from the Delphi case was analyzed at the Indiana State Crime lab. Almost two years later it doesn’t really matter. But it did matter in February of 2017. State labs are backlogged. It can take a year, or more, in some cases for DNA to be analyzed. I don’t know why they didn’t send it to a private lab. So…if they are continuing to send suspect DNA to the state lab, who knows how long the comparison takes. Unless they received priority which is unlikely.

  2. Thank you for page 18 Truthteller. It is a waiting game. It is hard to play the patience game with this. I hope they continue to catch the killers who think they have gotten by with their bad deeds. Thanks for updating us and all you do to bring awareness to these crimes. We want to see the good guys win, and get Justice for Abby and Libby, and all who are victims.

    1. It took me a long time to finally make another page. Comments have really died down. I don’t think people are losing interest as we still have a ton of views each day, that’s been consistent. I think we are all just frustrated. No one could have imagined that we would be this far out and no arrests.

    2. I put up the last of my “psych profile” comments on p17. I cannot think (or read) about such criminal minds anymore as it’s just too depressing. If your professional friend does come through with one it would be interesting to see what she thinks.

Like you folks, I’ve given this my all and feel I now know as much as we, the public, can. Shifting gears to the waiting mode also, but worried that it may be a long one.

And it’s so unfair to the families and the public that BG is walking free right now.
